SpringEval User Guide
Complete guide to all app features
Exporting Results
SpringEval can export your evaluation data in two ways: as Excel files (official Swiss BAFU forms) and as Field Notes ZIP archives.
Excel Export
The Excel export writes your data directly into the official Swiss evaluation form templates. The resulting .xlsx files are identical in structure to the paper forms and can be submitted to authorities as-is.
What is exported
| File | Contents |
|---|---|
struktur_ | Structure evaluation form (DE or FR sheet depending on app language) |
fauna_ | Fauna evaluation form |
How to export
- Navigate to a site → tap the Export tab (bottom navigation)
- Tap Export Structure or Export Fauna (or both)
- The file is generated and the share sheet appears
- Share via email, AirDrop, Files, or any other app
Export filename
Files are named using the Spring ID (if set) or the internal site ID. Set a meaningful Spring ID in the Site Info screen for recognisable filenames.
Field Notes ZIP Export
The field notes export bundles everything into a single .zip file:
feldnotizen_— a Markdown document with all three sections (General, Structure, Taxon observations).md photos/— all photos from all sections_ .jpg docs/— all attached documents
Full Export (All in One)
The Export All button creates a single ZIP containing both Excel files plus the field notes bundle. Ideal for complete site handover.
Cloud Sync and Export
If you are using cloud sync (Starter, Professional, or Enterprise license), the app ensures all photos are available locally before exporting. If a photo was taken on another device and not yet downloaded, the export screen will trigger a download before including it.
Tips
- Language: The Excel form language (DE/FR) matches the app language setting. Change the app language in Settings before exporting if you need a French form.
- Spring ID: Always set a meaningful Spring ID in Site Info — it is used for all filenames and the Excel form header.
- Photos in Excel: When structure photos are present, a flag is set in the Excel form and photo filenames are listed in the designated cell.
Importing xlsx Files
SpringEval can import existing structural and fauna evaluation xlsx files – both app-exported files and original Swiss FOEN forms.
Start an Import
- Home screen → ⋮ menu → "Import"
- Select an xlsx file (structural or fauna evaluation)
- SpringEval shows a preview with recognised data and the conflict status
Conflict Modes
If a spring with the same ID already exists:
- Do not overwrite (default): The file is skipped; existing data is preserved
- Merge: Site header and evaluations are overwritten; field notes and photos are kept
- Import as new: A new spring with a new ID is created; the spring ID is preserved as content
Supported File Types
- Structural evaluation xlsx (DE and FR)
- Fauna evaluation xlsx (DE and FR)
- App-exported files
- Original Swiss FOEN forms
