SpringEval User Guide

Complete guide to all app features

Field Notes

The Field Notes tab allows structured recording of accompanying information for each spring. It consists of three sub-tabs: General, Structure and Taxon.

General Tab

The General tab contains:

  • Rich-text editor: Free text with formatting (bold, italic, lists, numbered lists)
  • Photos: Any number of photos taken directly or imported from the gallery
  • Documents: Any file attachments (PDF, Word, images, etc.)
The rich-text editor supports:
  • Bold (B button or keyboard shortcut)
  • Italic (I button)
  • Bullet list
  • Numbered list
  • ~~Strikethrough~~

Structure Tab

The Structure tab is identical to the General tab, but without document attachments. It is for notes directly related to the structural evaluation, e.g. special features of the site or observations about impairments.

Taxon Tab

The Taxon tab records detailed observations on individual taxa. Each entry has:

  • Taxon name: Autocomplete from the 359-taxon list (free entry also accepted)
  • Count: Number of observed individuals
  • Life stage: L (larva), A (adult) or undefined
  • Notes: Rich-text note field (collapsible)
  • Photos: Photos for this taxon
Tap "+ Add entry" to create a new taxon entry.

Class Badge

With count > 0, a colour-coded class badge (e.g. "Cl. 3") appears and the card background is tinted. This makes it easier to get a visual overview.

Adding Photos

In all tabs, photos can be added:

  • Tap "Add photo" or the camera icon
  • Choose: Camera (take directly) or Gallery (import from photos)
  • The photo is automatically compressed and stored locally
  • Photos can be deleted by long-pressing
Photos are stored at /photos//.

Attaching Documents

In the General tab, any files can be attached:

  • Tap "Attach document"
  • Select the file in the file browser
  • The document appears as a card with name and size
Documents are saved as the original file (no conversion).

Field Notes Export

The Field Notes export (in the Export tab) creates a ZIP archive containing:

  • field_notes_.md – all field notes as a Markdown document (sections: General, Structure, Taxon observations)
  • photos/ – all photos including from taxon entries
  • docs/ – all document attachments
