Fauna Evaluation
The fauna evaluation digitalises the official FOEN form "Spring Fauna Assessment". You record macroinvertebrate taxa with count and life stage and receive the ÖWS score automatically.
Taxa List
SpringEval includes a complete list of 359 macroinvertebrate taxa compiled specifically for spring assessment. The list includes:
- Class (e.g. Insecta, Oligochaeta, Crustacea)
- Scientific name
- Red List status (RL)
- ÖWZ value for adults and larvae
Recording Taxa
To add a taxon:
- Tap "+ Add taxon"
- Tap the search field and start typing the name or part of it
- The list filters in real time – select the appropriate taxon
- Or: tap "Enter freely" if the taxon is not in the list
Count and Life Stage
For each taxon you can record:
- Count: 0–999 individuals (tapping the number field opens a numeric pad)
- Life stage: L (larva) or A (adult) or unspecified
− and + buttons allow quick increments. With count > 0, the row turns green and shows the class badge.
ÖWS Calculation
Once taxa with count > 0 are recorded, SpringEval calculates the ÖWS score according to the official method:
- Taxa are weighted by ÖWZ class
- Abundance is factored into the calculation
- The result is displayed as a score and rating class (very good / good / moderate / poor / bad)
- 🟦 Very good (Class I)
- 🟩 Good (Class II)
- 🟨 Moderate (Class III)
- 🟧 Poor (Class IV)
- 🟥 Bad (Class V)
ÖWS Summary Screen
Tap the ÖWS badge in the spring list to open the ÖWS detail screen. It shows:
- Structural ÖWS with legend
- Fauna ÖWS with legend
- Detailed breakdown by class
Field Notes for Taxa
In the Field Notes tab → Taxon, you can add individual notes and photos for each taxon. This is separate from the actual fauna evaluation and is suited for special observations.
Export Note
On Excel export, the taxon list is written into the official xlsx template. Freely entered taxa not in the official list are noted in an extra section.
